SÜ Faculty of Medicine, Accredited in the Department of General Surgery
The Medical Specialization Training Program of the Department of General Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine of Selçuk University was accredited by the Evaluation Committee of the Educational Institutions and Programs of the Turkish Surgical Association (EKPDK).
Rector of Selçuk University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şahin, Chairman of the Turkish Surgical Association Prof. Dr. Mehmet Faik Özçelik and Vice President Prof. Dr. Neşet Köksal, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Serdar Göktaş, vice deans, academicians and students attended the program at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, Beyhekim conference hall.
Having served in Turkish Surgical Association Board of Directors for 6 years, Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şahin said that "Our board has independent accreditation as a surgical clinic and strives for standardized education in Turkey. International accreditation process will start in the future. We are in contact with other clinics and professional associations in our country. We have always tried to improve our clinic and surgical training. This effort will continue after this. In the accreditation process, we have completely reorganized our clinic, education, examination system process. This process mainly covers the general training. However, this phenomenon is also reflected in the academic studies of academicians and students. Indicating that Selçuk University is among the rare clinics that received accreditation, Rector Şahin said they were happy to be in the top 20 clinics and thanked everyone who contributed.
Chairman of the Turkish Surgical Association Qualification Board Prof. Dr. Mehmet Faik Özçelik stated that "Qualifications in the world are the things that are done for the determination of quality and we determine the adequacy of the institution in providing education with documents. Similarly, doctors have certificates of competence. The documentation here is two in one, but the situation around the world is that physicians' own competences are the most important to determine quality. Today the institution that precedes the qualification exams is co-authorization. The most significant point here is that the institution is accredited. An institution with an accredited value means that all educational, academic and patient care tasks are carried out to the specified extent. In a clinic where these critieria are not met, neither the health of the patients will be in the norms, nor education can reach those norms."
Evaluating the accreditation application of Selçuk University to the Turkish Surgical Association Qualification Board Educational Institutions and Program Evaluation Commission, Prof. Dr. Neşet Köksal stated that "It takes serious self-confidence to apply because there are serious criteria when we look at accreditation. By applying, you are actually taking a step by accepting the quality and increase in the specialist training. I really congratulate Selçuk University General Surgery Clinic and Rector Mustafa Şahin."
At the end of the program, the Rector of Selçuk University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şahin took Turkish Specialty Training Competency Certificate from Prof. Dr. Mehmet Faik Özçelik and 2nd Chairman Prof. Dr. Neşet Köksal.
