Selcuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine started education as the fifth faculty of veterinary in 1982 in Konya, one of Turkey's most important animal husbandry center in our country. Our faculty provides education in a closed area of 23.000 m2. In our faculty, education and training has been reorganized taking into consideration the criteria of European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and Bologna criteria. The education period in the faculty is 5 years (10 semesters) and it gives graduates the undergraduate diploma equivalent to the master degree. While theoretical and practical training are carried out together in the first 4 years, practical training is mainly given under the name of internship or maturation training in the last 1 year. The laboratories conduct training, research and diagnostic analyzes. As well as training and research, all kinds of examination, diagnosis, treatment and operations are provided for the public in clinics with four departments including Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Diseases and, Reproduction and Artificial Insemination. Our faculty provides accommodation for the animals during the treatment period, the patients from the districts and the neighboring provinces are given service with the help of experienced academic staff and service quality and it is progressing further towards becoming a regional hospital. The cattle, sheep, dog, poultry and pig breeding units are used for training, breeding and research purposes in the Research and Application Farm of the faculty within the campus area. In the Meat and Dairy Products Research Development and Implementation Unit, meat and dairy products are produced especially for training, with the participation of students. Selcuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was accepted as Full Accredited at the meeting of EAEVE / ECOVE Committee, which is an international accreditation association, on 30 October 2013. In addition, our faculty has been accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Educational Institutions and Programs (VEDEK), which is a national accreditation unit, since 30 September 2015 for 7 years. It is one of the five faculties in Turkey having received VEDEK accreditation.
Our mission is to educate veterinarians protecting animal and human health, providing diagnosis, treatment and control of diseases, respecting animal rights, knowing proper conditions in animal production, care and feeding, controling the production of animal food in healthy and suitable conditions, following scientific developments and technology, respecting the rules of professional ethics, having an environmental consciousness and competence in international level and giving importance to continuous education.
Our vision is to increase the competencies of our students by improving the quality of evidence-based education, to carry out development-oriented researches, to be in constant contact with the relevant sectors, to increase the recognition abroad through collaborating and conducting projects with more countries in the international field, especially with the European Union countries, and to make sense of quality a way of life and thus, to be among the world's leading veterinary faculties.
