Selcuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital
Our faculty clinics have been providing clinical services since 1982 when our faculty was established. Our clinics were licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on 29.04.2013 and continue their service under the name of Animal Hospital. Animal Hospital services are provided by the Departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproduction and Artificial Insemination. There is an Emergency Service within the Animal Hospital serving 7/24.
1. Department of Internal Medicine Clinic
9 academic staff (6 Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, 2 Research Assistants) are working in the Department of Internal Diseases. Our internal diseases clinic consists of two parts: Large and small animal clinics. There are 1 new born intensive care room and 2 examination rooms in large animal clinic. There are 1 injection room, 1 intensive care room, 1 diagnostic imaging room, 1 cardiology unit and 1 examination room in small animal clinic. In the clinic of internal diseases, diagnosis of infectious and non-infectious diseases related to gastrointestinal, metabolism and endocrinology, nephrology, dermatology, neurology, cardiology, respiratory system, oncology of pet (cat, dog), large animal (horse, cattle), small ruminant (sheep, goats) and exotic animals are carried out, patients are treated and hospitalized when necessary. Routine vaccination and anti-parasitic drug applications are also carried out with general health control programs for pet animals. Ultrasonography and endoscopy are performed in our diagnostic imaging unit and genetic and acquired heart diseases of cats and dogs are diagnosed and treated in our cardiology unit. Echocardiography, electrocardiography and blood pressure measurement are also performed in our cardiology unit. The hospital has a Central Laboratory serving all clinics. Whole blood / blood gas analyzes and biochemical analyzes of all animals and hormones of cats and dogs are performed in the Central Laboratory.
2. Department of Surgery
10 academic staff (7 Professors, 3 Research Assistants), 1 Veterinarian are working in the Department of Surgery. Polyclinic services are provided for the surgical external diseases of all domestic and wild animals, and lectures are given on animal species within the scope of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. In this context, Radiology unit (Digital X-ray, Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography), Arthroscopic, Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic Surgery, Neurology-Neurosurgery, Microsurgery, Veterinary Dentistry, Veterinary Ophthalmology and Physical Therapy-Rehabilitation routine applications are performed for diagnosis and treatment. Anesthesia and Reanimation, Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery, Radiology, Foot Diseases and Nal Technique, Ophthalmology, Dental Diseases, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation training are offered within the scope of the Veterinary Undergraduate Program. Large and small animal operation rooms and Anesthesiology and Reanimation / Hospitalization unit are available for soft tissue surgery and orthopedic interventions. Operation halls are equipped with world class equipment. These halls are equipped with ceiling lighting, anesthesia devices, central gas system, aspirator system, patient head monitors, electro cautery devices. There are also intensive care units and patient preparation rooms for cats and dogs. There are 5 examination rooms where routine examination of the patients is performed in the Department of Surgery. Soft tissue, orthopedics, eye, ear, dental diseases are diagnosed and treated in these examination rooms. There are also 5 operation rooms. Scientific studies for educational and research purposes, BAP, TUBITAK, Ministry of Food and Foresity livestock supported projects are carried out in addition to routine clinical practice.
3. Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
9 academic staff (5 professors, 1 assistant professor, 3 research assistants) are employed in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our department offers undergraduate and graduate education. In our department, gynecological examination, diagnosis, treatment and surgical intervention of diseases are provided for pet and livestock. There are also in vitro fertilization and embryo production laboratories in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Master and doctoral research projects and molecular studies are carried out in the laboratory. Vocational training and courses are organized for veterinarians within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, curriculum completion training is provided for Veterinary Health Technicians. Consultancy and medical services are also offered to public and private livestock enterprises in the region.
4. Reproduction and Artificial Insemination
There are 5 academic staff (3 professors, 2 research assistants) in the Department of Reproduction and Artificial Insemination. Artificial insemination is carried out for small and large ruminants and pet animals in our department. In addition, the insemination can be adjusted to a certain time by performing oestrus synchronizations. Male and female infertility problems are identified and treated. Semen from male animals can be frozen and inseminated at any time. There are two laboratories in our department. In semen laboratory, semen dilution and freezing, spermatozoon plasma membrane, acrosomal membrane and mitochondrial activity rates can be examined with fluorescence microscope, DNA damages can be determined by COMET device and osmotic pressure of solutions can be evaluated. In the embryo transfer laboratory, collection and invitro maturation of oocyte, in vitro capacity of spermatozoon, in vitro fertilization and in vitro culture can be performed. After the formation of embryos with the synchronization of the recipient animals, they can be transferred.
